With so much to discover throughout the region, every holiday becomes an experience. The world renowned German artist Werner Berg adopted this enchanting stretch of land with its bilingual population as his home of choice. His gallery in Bleiburg/Pliberk contains a remarkable collection of oil paintings and ink prints depicting rural life in the local community.
The area pays testimony to numerous episodes in Carinthia's rich history, and combines these with the most dramatic landscape features. Visit the ancient Roman settlement Juenna in the vicinity of Globasnitz/Globasnica; the Hemma Hill with its Early Christian church remains; Rosalia's grotto with Rosalia's spring, said to have theurgic qualities; Gracarca (pronounced: 'gra-tsar-tsa), the museum devoted to Celtic artfacts; Carinthia's most commanding church fortification at Diex, dating to the 15th century; the untamed gorges at the Trögerner Klamm; and the Wildensteiner Wasserfall, Europe's highest free-falling waterfall.
